About Us

Joy Farm Nursery was established on Joy Farm in 2008 by Avril, and the 10-hectare farm was bought by Avril and Martin in 2013. Joy Farm was transformed from an abandoned banana farm rife with alien vegetation to the beautiful farm it is today by the dedication and hard work of Avril. Avril grew up on a small farm, inheriting her love of plants and farming from her mom.

At the heart of Joy Farm is Avril, a passionate plant specialist with extensive knowledge of exotic fruit trees and bromeliads. Avril is a qualified landscaper and registered Invasive Plant Species Consultant. She has extensive experience and training in the control of alien plants. She has a gift for crafting stunning gardens and loves helping others bring their garden visions to life.

A chance discovery of a stunningly beautiful dragon fruit while visiting Harrods in the UK led to Avril establishing a small dragon fruit orchard on the farm. Macadamias were added later, and various other exotic fruit trees were also planted on the farm by Avril.

Joy Farm Nursery, established 17 years ago, has been a trusted source for bromeliads and exotic plants on the KZN South Coast, with Avril participating in many local plant fairs over the years. In recent years, the nursery has expanded its offerings to include a diverse selection of exotic fruit trees and edible plants, supplying plants to customers both locally and beyond.

Beyond plants, Joy Farm is also home to Goldies, Avril’s delicious line of homemade condiments, including the famous Goldies Chilli Paste and Dragon fruit jam.
